We Don't Know Much About Herstory
Back when you were in school, you probably learned all about the history of the Roman Empire, Ancient Greece, and the American Revolution. I bet, like me, that you learned absolutely nothing about our earliest history, which was also Herstory.
Great video by Nina Paley “You Gotta Believe” with animated dancing statues of ancient female dieties including the 20,000 year old Venus of Lassel.
Once upon a time…
The goddess was worshiped. Her vagina - or yoni, a Sanskrit word which means holy source - was portrayed in sculptures & rock paintings. The yoni was adored as a place of tremendous magical power since the greatest miracle, new life, arose from it.
Shakti, sacred feminine creative energy, was seen as the underlying force responsible for all of creation. Women were respected and honored as representatives of the goddess.
Moon / menstrual blood was offered by women to the Earth in love. A woman’s first menstruation (menarche) was a sacred rite of passage.
Then the Divine Mother was cancelled. Deleted. Removed from our awareness and our culture. Women and men became disconnected from half of our Creator. Female healers watched each other be burned as witches. Women were told that our bodies are shameful, our menstrual blood unhygienic, our wombs only good for creating babies. We became disconnected from our bodies, the Divine Feminine and our own creative power.
The Divine Mother is calling us to change that. To embody her return. To create balance within ourselves and within humanity. And we start through womb healing.
