The Sacredness of Friday the 13th

Our women’s retreat last weekend was absolutely fabulous. So much healing, opening, and connecting. So much reclamation and celebration!

We were 13 ladies who gathered on Friday the 13th - a clear sign that the Sacred Feminine was with us, expressing through us and uniting us.

13 = Number of the Sacred Feminine

We’re taught that Friday the 13th is an unlucky day. But that’s just programming from the patriarchy - and awful horror movies! 13 is actually a Divine Feminine number.

There are 13 moon cycles in the lunar calendar. Each cycle represents the natural menstrual cycle of the Divine Feminine and celebrates the connection between women, the moon and the mysteries of creation.

Friday is historically the Day of the Goddess. Its name comes from Freya - the Norse goddess of love, beauty, fertility and sensuality.

On a personal note, the 13 elders of the International Council of Thirteen Indigenous Grandmothers have been my medicine teachers for the past decade, guiding and supporting me in plant medicine ceremonies.

Helen and I hadn’t even realized we’d picked the Goddess Day to kick off our Get Unstuck retreat, but we all felt Her energy in every moment

Goddess Energy in Force

The Dark Goddess (think Kali) - along with some hard-core drumming, rapé (sacred tobacco) and the sacred Fire - helped us to get unstuck - to confront our shadows, stop numbing out and get raw with our unexpressed anger, grief and rage.

In ceremony, many women laid down on Gaia, our Mother Earth, to be nourished - and they shared about experiencing a deep sense of connectedness to the earth, wind, mountains, birds and trees.

Kwan Yin and Iemenjá (goddess of the sea) came through with the Spirit of Water to move and soothe our grief with deep compassion and gentle strength.

And the Divine Mother blessed and held us through all of it. So beautiful. I’m very grateful.

Thank you to Helen, to our assistant Sierra, to all the women who’ve ever joined a retreat with me or trusted me to support you in any way. Most of all, thank you to the Goddess / Holy Mother / Divine Feminine / Mother God / Sacred Feminine who is within us and around us - loving and holding us always.
