Lighten Up!
Last week, my friend Tammy Roth sent a newsletter entitled “Lighten Up.“ (Tammy offers very insightful quantum astrology sessions. Check her out here.)
She wrote about all of her spirit guides coming to her in meditation. She was expecting a “Come to Jesus” moment. Instead, Jesus was one who told her to stop being so serious.
I wrote back to Tammy, “I’ve been getting the same message!” A couple days prior, at the end of my morning spiritual practice, Russ opened my door wearing nothing but work boots. When he realized what I was doing, he had a horrified look on his face - as if he’d ruined everything. I burst out laughing. I took it as a message to lighten up.
Right after I sent off my email to Tammy, I picked up a book I’d just ordered.
Before putting it on the shelf, I flipped through the pages and landed right on Chapter 2: Lighten Up.
You can’t make this stuff up! I guess my guides wanted to make sure I got the message!
Some people get direct guidance in words and visions from their spiritual teams. My guides are a little more creative.
Our guides can talk to us through a passage in a book, a song, a bumper sticker, or an overheard conversation. They can use Google, nature, a friend, and dreams to deliver a message. When you’re alert to it, there are signs everywhere.
Here’s another example… A couple months ago, I was ranting to my husband Russ about something I perceived as evil. Later that day, at the grocery store, I overheard a couple talking about evil people. I drove home behind a car with a huge sticker on the rear window that read “Israel is Evil.”
OK, guides. I got the message. What I put out in the world, I receive back. It’s that classic spiritual adage “as within, so without.” There’s no avoiding it… our thoughts, emotions, and consciousness shape our experiences.
I’ve promised myself to stop talking about things that I have not made peace with yet.
Even though we may be well meaning, when we talk about what we’re enraged about, it just perpetuates the energy of rage.
Side note: these days most media practices Engagement by Enragement. Taking a break from the news and social media is a great way to recenter yourself.
So there you have it - straight from my guides: Lighten up. Open up. Be the peace you want to see in the world.
